How Much of the Population Is the Government Planning For Flu Vaccination by 2020?

During show #7, one of your callers to the show mentioned the government website, Healthy People. The site outlines basically everything the government wants to accomplish as it relates to the health of its citizens by 2020… including vaccinations. 90% of what is contained in the website is for the greater good. The following are some of the goals that stood out related to vaccinations and fluoride, though there are tons of other topics on the site to peruse.

The first relates to the flu vaccination for pregnant women (the flu vaccine still contains a substantial dosage of thimerosal (mercury-based preservative).

The next addresses the government's flu vaccination target for all adults aged 18 or older:

AND a FLUORIDE sighting. I had no idea so many people were already drinking fluoride:

Reading through the data in the Food Safety section is a little disturbing:

- The proportion of full-service restaurants where employees practice proper handwashing is only 24%. Fast food restaurants are at 61%
- Full-service restaurants where food contact surfaces are properly cleaned and sanitized is only 35%. Fast food restaurants are at 32%
- Proper food refrigeration in full-service restaurants stands at just 28%.

I also gathered the following data (annually based):

- 33% of 4th grade students, including those who attended public and private schools, had reading skills at or above the proficient achievement level for their grade in 2005
- 35.4% of 12th grade students, including those who attended public and private schools, had reading skills at or above the proficient achievement level for their grade in 2005

- 26.4% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 years always considered their school work to be meaningful and important in 2008
- 86.4% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 years had parents who reported that they felt their child was usually or always safe at school, as reported in 2007
- Death by firearm is slightly less likely than dying giving birth (.01% vs .012%)
- You are twice as likely to get shot and live than die from prostate cancer or die in a motor vehicle
- Despite the prevalent presence of guns in the US, there is a 2.1% chance you will be physically assaulted
- 20% of students in grades 9-12 reported being bullied on school property
- 5.6% of students in grade 9-12 reported carrying a weapon to school during the past 30 days
- 60% of children were exposed to any form of violence, crime, and abuse measured in 2008
